Appeal to the FCC

Why does a private company want to take over the 902-928 MHz band? Do we really need a private company encroaching on the public airwaves for very adequate GPS coverage in this country?

Restructuring this band will have significant implications for a broad range of users, particularly those who rely on unlicensed spectrum for innovative, community-driven projects. Innovation does not just come from large business enterprises. It also stems from active participation in open source collaboration and private capital. Restructuring this band will have adverse effects on the both the licensed and unlicensed HAM community and this proposal should be immediately scrapped because it is both un-necessary and a blatant corporate handout that, reverses pre-established precedent.

It is crucial for all stakeholders, especially amateur radio operators, tech enthusiasts, and public safety advocates, to be able to participate on critical piece of spectrum used for various applications, including industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) purposes, as well as amateur radio.

Unlicensed Spectrum is Vital: The 900 MHz band is crucial for a wide range of applications, particularly for community-driven projects like Meshtastic that rely on this spectrum to operate effectively.

Innovation at Risk: Limiting access to unlicensed spectrum could stifle innovation within the open-source community, hindering the development of new technologies and applications.

Public Safety Concerns: Decentralized communication networks provide critical connectivity in emergencies; reallocating this spectrum could weaken these vital lifelines.

Equity and Accessibility: The unlicensed spectrum serves as a democratizing resource, and restricting access could disproportionately impact small-scale operators and underserved communities.

Do we really need another corporate giveaway? Will this restructuring end up interfering with other frequencies and users?

My educated guess is yes, this will stifle innovation and ultimately become a major issue for the FCC.
Please do not restructure the 902-928 MHz band for an already saturated technology. Lets’ let private development and collaboration flourish.
